Well today I decided to finally erase all of my social networking websites. Why you ask? Well because that's how I woke up feeling..lol
It's been a love hate relationship with social networking. I have used it like most people for a tool to keep up to date on family, friends, celebrities, random folks with locs, random folks who take cool pictures, random people who have interesting things to say. All that good stuff...But one of my biggest issues has been overexposure! Like feeling the need to share that I was at this event, or did this, or accomplished this. Now granted, I don't feel like these are things that I wouldn't never share, but how come I'm sharing it with that one dude that I went to junior high with who I haven't seen since high school and I don't even have his phone number. Kinda weird right?
Overexposure. I was talking to a friend about whats next? whats next with all this social networking/reality stuff...I say the Truman Show! Ohh wait, its already happening!! LOL...I see girls when they first learn they are pregnant, through out their entire pregnancy (getting status updates, videos of the baby moving inside, we get pictures while the new mommy is in labor, then pictures of the baby just born, then the 3 month update...and so on! Ya'll get the picture. Basically, I've just seen your baby grow up via 3 different social networking sites. Kinda weird right?
Insecurities, I had noticed that social networking was weighing in on insecurities that I have about myself. Its inevitable that you start comparing yourself to others. Like, umm why haven't I traveled so much? why don't my body look like that? why i'm not in a happy loving relationship? Although to some extent it can be motivating, but seeing pictures everyday or statuses...and being consumed with it at all times....I definitely think there is a fine line between what can be motivating and what starts to wear down on your mentals.
Gossiping. Ohh this whole social networking thing has taken my gossiping to an all time high! Hey, thats no lie...It gives great material! You see people you know in real life, faking it via the web! You see girls be hella in love, posting hella pics of their partner, then 6 months later, hate each other and erase all the photos. Celebrity gossip, ohh that's my vice, so they be all on social networking acting a fool! LOL...I'm saying....with the combination of screen shots..ohh its all bad! Yea, so this spurs so much negativity that I know just isn't good for my spirit.
Physical damage. I'm not sure about who else have this concern, but I am truly concerned about my THUMB!! All that scrolling it has to do, all these awkward positions its in while trying to capture the best selfie...my thumb is precious to me! LOL...its been overworked for years now lol
For all the reasons posted above, I've decided to permanently unplug.
