So the latest wave of people becoming a part of the social networking community has its perks and also its downfalls. I am here to address one of its downfalls that has really begun to irritate me (I know, I shouldn't be irritated so easily, but that's something I have to work on...so don't dwell on that and finish reading what I have to say, LOL) and that is POSERS!!
Posers: A poser is someone who lives vicariously through social networking sites ...those who create a personality that does not accurately reflect who they are in person (as defined by Raven).
I remember when I was in the 8th grade and the social networking was the party line. Now you had to be 18 or over to be on the party line; however, there was no real "ID" check..all you had to do was press 2 to enter. So at 13, it was fun to be a poser. You were on the chatline, talked with a "grown-up" like voice, called yourself Ashley when your name was Terry, and talk to guys. It was something to pass the time and no one knew that you were actually a premature teen who hadn't even started her period. LOL
Posers were sort of accepted on MySpace. It was a place where everyone had added everyone. A site not strictly meant for people that you knew, but hella different people. So If I wanted to put my income at $250,000 or higher...it was only a handful of people who might actually call me out.
Now Facebook became popular for me while I was in college. It was a place where you can find out about campus events, link up with friends, post pictures. The difference between my experience with Facebook and MySpace is that I knew everyone on my Facebook. So it was hard to be a POSER!! Because we actually knew each other. Now with Facebook and Twitter becoming so popular, more people are adding you and more people are starting to put themselves "on" way more than they actually are.
It's becoming bothersome when people are portraying themselves as "ballers", "players" ,"a female version of a hustla"(lol)...I am so over it, what's so wrong with being who you are??
I'M JUST SAYING...because most of those on your friends list know the real, so you really come out looking like a POSER (FYI, that's not a compliment)
